Description

Black silicon carbide is made in a high temperature electric resistance-kind furnace from a combination of quartz sand and petroleum coke. The hardness of black silicon carbide is higher than fused alumina but much less than artificial diamond. Its mechanical intensity is greater than fused alumina, but is brittle and really sharp. The mineral has some electrical and warmth conductivity.
